Polly Jean Harvey - Bsides and White Chalk
PJ Harvey has volumes.
Of music produced?
Sure.
She has recorded eleven albums as solo artist, but that’s not what I meant by volumes. We are talking about a tiny paper doll of a woman with a voice that shatters any misconceptions you had about rock and what you thought you already knew. She makes no effort in hiding her influences - Blues, 70’s Punk Rock, and even Classical when she includes instruments like pianos, string quartets, organs, and harps. With 10 albums behind her, a lot of her music has been a stand off. She brings listeners close enough to feel what she is feeling… still keeping a distance.
She finally lead us in. White Chalk is her eleventh album.
We will have a full review in a few days. For now, listen to some B-sides you may or may not have heard.
White Chalk was recorded in West London and co-produced by PJ Harvey, Flood and John Parish.
